PREGNANCY YOGA & HYPNOTHERAPY RETREAT.

Pregnancy Weekend Retreat | Littleton Mill, Wiltshire

Spring 2012
with... Stephanie

** Recommended by "Baby Hampshire" & "Families Upon Thames" **

A relaxing short break in the beautiful English countryside is the perfect opportunity for expecting couples to prepare physically as well as mentally for the birth of their new baby in a supportive and informal environment.

Littleton Mill is a beautiful oasis of calm in the middle of the Wiltshire countryside, within easy reach of London. Come and meet other like-minded parents-to-be and experience a mixture of Yoga, breathing & relaxation techniques, a hypnotherapy & birth preparation workshop, invigorating walks in nature and indulgent holistic treatments.
More importantly there will be lots of laughter and the chance to spend some much needed quality time with your partner, away from the stresses of everyday life!

Location:

Littleton Mill is a 17th Century water mill run entirely on renewable energy. It is set in ten acres of unspoilt Wiltshire countryside, and is surrounded by water, making it is the perfect venue for relaxing mind, body and soul.

It is situated on Semington Brook, minutes away from the Kennet and Avon Canal and houses a large yoga space with original beams and gorgeous views out over the water.

Accommodation:

These photos of Littleton Mill really don't do it justice! It is tastefully decorated throughout and there are five large double bedrooms, some en-suite and some with shared bathrooms.

All the rooms and living areas are very spacious and finished to a high standard in calming natural colours.

Activities:

Stephanie will be leading this weekend Retreat. As a Doula (birth companion) and Birthlight ante-natal & post-natal yoga teacher, she will be focusing on opening stretches, different breathing and massage techniques as well as deep relaxation. During the yoga sessions you will also learn how to map out your pelvis, practice useful positions for labour and discover how best to assist your body in birthing your baby. Stephanie will also be involving the partners, showing them how to practically assist you during labour and how to protect the "birthing ambiance" and keep the oxytocin flowing.

Lucy Symons, leading birth hypnotherapist and runner up Doula of the year 2009, will be teaching a 2 hour workshop on the Saturday. Lucy, a mother of two, has helped hundreds of women achieve a more controlled and calm labour & birth. Hypnosis can help you sleep more easily, remain up-beat during your pregnancy and prepare you for a positive labour, birth experience and being a "good enough" mother.

During her workshop, Lucy will give you loads of top tips and tell you what the midwives won't so you'll know your options before you go to hospital, which will leave you feeling empowered and informed. She will also teach you how to use self-hypnosis and you will even come away with your very own recording of the hypnosis session to play at home.

The group will gather together for each meal, which will be healthy and nutritious and devised specifically for pregnancy. If it's anything like last year, it will be so delicious, you'll never know it's good for you!

In between meals and sessions with Stephanie & Lucy, the time is yours to do with as you wish. Feel free to be as secluded or as sociable as you like.

Couples can choose to do absolutely nothing but relax and catch up on some sleep, reading or quality time together. One or both of you may want to indulge in a holistic treatment such a reflexology, massage or a facial. And if you fancy being slightly more active, you can make the most of the many beautiful countryside walks in the area.

Why bring Husbands or Partners?

Men can often feel quite apprehensive about coming on a Pregnancy Yoga Retreat, but tell them not to worry, they don't need to have any previous Yoga experience and there definitely won't be any "Hippy chanting"! Your partners are mainly there to support you and learn some invaluable info along the way.

Did you know that according to Dr Thomas Verny's breakthrough book "The Secret Life of the Unborn Child", a father's emotional support to the mother during her pregnancy, is "absolutely essential" to the child's wellbeing?

Men can often feel side-lined during pregnancy, so this is a chance to include them in the bonding process and enable them to feel useful, confident and essential to the incredible experience of pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

This Retreat will be practical, down-to-earth and light-hearted. They will get to meet other fathers-to-be and more importantly spend a relaxing weekend away with you, before the baby arrives - when will you get to do that again?

This is a brilliant opportunity to help you both reconnect with each other, bond with your unborn baby and prepare for an optimal birth experience.

And as a special treat for being such supportive partners, the men get to spend a lazy Sunday morning reading the papers while you attend the yoga class and if it all gets a bit much, there's always the local pub within walking distance!

Testimonials

"The weekend retreat provided us with an opportunity to relax together in a beautiful setting and allowed us to focus on what we were trying to achieve - a calm and positive birth experience. The yoga was pitched at the right level and it gave us lots of breathing techniques to take away with us. Littleton Mill and all the staff were warm and friendly and the meals that were provided were delicious! The hypnosis session was extremely interesting and helpful and we used the CD given to us in the session during the birth."

"Having had trouble conceiving naturally and ultimately having to go down the IVF route, my husband and I were over the moon when we finally fell pregnant. So precious was my little gift that I became somewhat paranoid my body was going to let me and the baby down during the birth so we planned for an elective caesarian. When I attended Stephanie's pregnancy retreat, I slowly started to change my mind. The bits of information I picked up started to resonate with me and her classes helped me to rationalise my fears and I started to feel confident about my ability to deliver our baby naturally. The techniques taught demonstrated ways you and your partner could assist your body and your baby through the birthing process. I now feel an enormous sense of calm about the impending birth and every day I say to my baby that “we’ll do it together…we’re a team!” ".
